What is Apollo Config?

Apollo 3.0 moves to Java 17 and pitches configuration management at AI agents.

Apollo ships a feature release roughly once a year with small patches between them. 3.0.0 in October moved the server to Java 17 and Spring Boot 4.1 and began what the project calls Agent First configuration management: structured APIs, user-delegated access and machine-readable capabilities for agents. The 2.5 line before it added incremental config sync and app-level export and import, followed by two permission and authentication patches.

What is OpenTofu?

OpenTofu keeps patching the 1.12 line after opening 1.13 with Symbol Libraries

OpenTofu's feed shows a maintenance rhythm: the 1.11 series closed with a last security patch in August, and the 1.12 line keeps taking fixes, most recently a panic on invalid state-encryption configuration. The directional entry remains v1.13.0-beta1, which added Symbol Libraries for user-defined functions and types plus an experimental -lint flag.

Apollo Config vs OpenTofu: editorial side-by-side

A2.5

Apollo 3.0 moves to Java 17 and pitches configuration management at AI agents.

◆ Current state

Apollo ships a feature release roughly once a year with small patches between them. 3.0.0 in October moved the server to Java 17 and Spring Boot 4.1 and began what the project calls Agent First configuration management: structured APIs, user-delegated access and machine-readable capabilities for agents. The 2.5 line before it added incremental config sync and app-level export and import, followed by two permission and authentication patches.

◆ Where it's heading

After two years of lowering operating cost (single-process startup, incremental sync, export and import), 3.0 is the first release aimed at a new kind of client: software agents acting on a user's behalf. The platform bump to Java 17 came with it.

◆ Prediction

Expect 3.0.x patches on the new platform baseline; the entries do not yet show how the agent-facing APIs are used in practice.

OpenTofu keeps patching the 1.12 line after opening 1.13 with Symbol Libraries

◆ Current state

OpenTofu's feed shows a maintenance rhythm: the 1.11 series closed with a last security patch in August, and the 1.12 line keeps taking fixes, most recently a panic on invalid state-encryption configuration. The directional entry remains v1.13.0-beta1, which added Symbol Libraries for user-defined functions and types plus an experimental -lint flag.

◆ Where it's heading

Language design moves in the 1.13 series while older minors receive narrowly scoped security and stability fixes, often released on the same day across lines. Recent patches skew toward hardening inputs: registries, git URLs and now state-encryption config.

◆ Prediction

More same-day patch releases across the supported lines are likely; the feed does not show how far Symbol Libraries have moved past experimental status.
