Breaking changes arrive from underneath rather than by design — the 0.26.3 theme format change came from Ratatui altering how it serializes colors upstream, and the default-shell change replaced bash with the user's shell on Unix. The most recent release turns to scale, replacing time-based cache invalidation with a generation counter to fix status loading in large repositories.
