Depending on a chain of document-conversion tools means the package inherits their breakages.

The next release will likely be another response to an upstream document-tooling change, though the pdf_args work suggests further OfficeToPDF options could be exposed if accessibility gaps surface.

The 1.9.0 work is the clearest example, and it is careful to keep the memory benefit by pushing summaries into C++ rather than materialising an array.

The JSON sidecar support is flagged as R-only for now, which makes exposing it through the C++ API the most likely next step.
